Prolife Betrayal in PA

Santorum, Christian radio station sell out Prolife candidate for 30 pieces of silver

PITTSBURGH, PA - Living in western Pennsylvania, I got to watch and hear the Republican Senate primary ads first hand. On one hand you had Pat Toomey, a prolifer and well-respected politician. Two years prior, he was the Republican nominee for PA governor's race. On the other, you had Arlen Specter - long time pro-abortion advocate and PA senator. (You might remember his whimpy vote of "not proven" during the Clinton impeachment trial).

Specter's campaign attack ads so distorted the truth and maligned the reputation of Pat Toomey, that even statewide pro-abortion newspapers were shocked and disgusted. That - in itself - we have seen before in politics. What we have not seen is men like "prolife" Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum running ads *for* pro-abortion Sen. Arlen Specter.  These are ads spoken in his own voice. I recall telling my wife, "Why in the world would Santorum be pimping ads for a pro-abort dog like Specter? What has Specter promised Santorum in return for his betraying a fellow prolifer like Pat Toomey?" No one,  save Santorum and Specter, can know for sure right now. We will only find out later (after the election in November) when we see what Senate committee Santorum gets to head in payment for his betrayal to Pat Toomey and the entire prolife community.

I also heard Santorum doing ads for other politicians - but given his stabbing Toomey in the back (for his future committee leadership?) - I could not vote for *anyone* he endorses now. Expect a new U.S. Senator in Pennsylvania in 2 or 4 years - as Santorum is toast.

Another rub for me concerning this Republican primary election: most of the Arlen Specter attack ads that this writer heard, came not from the secular radio stations in our area - but from the "Christian" 101.5 WORD-FM in Pittsburgh - a Salem Communications station. This is supposed to be a Christian radio station!

WORD-FM espouses the Christian faith, yet for the money that political ads generate, it seems they have no problem selling their soul to the devil. True, they did run ads for Toomey as well (even a plea from Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family) but at a ratio of 5-1 in favor of  pro-abortion Arlen Specter. Granted, Specter did have the party money and backing. Sadly WORD-FM was all too eager to accept it.

Let's put the money issue aside for a moment. Why in world is a Christian radio station running ads for a man who advocates the slaughter of unborn children - period??? WORD-FM's talk show host Marty Minto refuses to engage this obscenity. He is fearless when condemning homosexual marriage - and rightfully so - but is silent when it comes to his station's participation in furthering abortion. I wonder if Minto would suddenly become silent about gay marriage if a "gay" politician started to advertise on WORD-FM? Is that the way it works? Attempts to contact Minto went unanswered.

The fight against abortion will continue. Unfortunately, the fight is made all the harder when the "prolife" Republican party and "Christian" radio stations side with the butchers of mankind.
